Walking into a new chat community feels a little like arriving at a party where everyone already knows each other. Give it one evening. This guide takes you from sign-up to your first good conversation at Intrigue Chat, in eight short steps.
Step 1: Come in as a guest, or register
You can join as a guest with just a username, gender and age. No email needed. When you’re ready to stay, register a full account: tap your profile at the top right, choose Edit Profile and follow the green bar. You can also tap Register on the Intrigue Chat home page.
- Pick a username you’re happy to be known by. Leave your real name out of it.
- Use a strong password you don’t use anywhere else.
- Intrigue Chat is for adults only. You must be 18 or older.
Step 2: Set up your profile
Your profile is what people look at before they say hello. A little effort here makes conversations much easier to start.
- Add an avatar. It doesn’t have to be your face.
- Write a short bio: your interests, your sense of humour, what you like talking about.
- Say what you’re here for: friendship, flirting, or both.
- Only share what you’re comfortable with. A little mystery suits everyone.
Our chat profile tips go into more detail.
Step 3: Head to Intrigue Bar And Lounge
Intrigue Bar And Lounge is our main room and the place everyone starts. It’s busy, friendly and full of regulars who are used to welcoming new faces.
Step 4: Say hello
Say a quick hello when you arrive and join the conversation that’s already going. Ask questions, react to what people say, and don’t worry if it takes a little while for anyone to notice you. Chat moves in waves.
Step 5: Learn the House Rules
Read the House Rules and our chat etiquette guide. The two that matter most on day one: chat in the room before you private message anyone, and no means no, the first time.
Step 6: Explore the features
- Private messages, for one-to-one conversations once someone’s said yes.
- Your friends list, to keep track of the people you get on with.
- The bar, where you can order or send virtual drinks. Some are free and some cost Gold.
- Gifts, sent with Gold. Sending gifts is part of VIP.
- Block and report, for anyone who makes you uncomfortable.
Step 7: Know your crests
Every name in Intrigue wears a crest. The Inner Circle runs the site, Room Keepers look after the rooms, and Advisors help with community and events. Members are Guest, Member, Intrigue+ and VIP.
Chatting is free. VIP is a paid upgrade that unlocks extra features, such as sending gifts. VIP members can also apply for a room of their own, and an approved room comes with Intrigue+ at no extra cost. Our guide to ranks, VIP and Intrigue+ explains it all.
Step 8: Stay safe
Use block and report if someone makes you uncomfortable, never send money to people you meet online, and read our online chat safety tips. Staff will never ask for your password.
First-day mistakes to avoid
- Private messaging straight away. Chat in the room first. It’s the fastest way to make a good impression.
- Leaving your profile blank. People are far more likely to reply when they know a little about you.
- Giving up after ten minutes. Rooms have quiet spells. Stay a while, or come back in the evening.
- Sharing too much too soon. Keep personal details private until you really know someone.
Your first-week checklist
- Fill in your profile and add an avatar.
- Say hello in Intrigue Bar And Lounge on a few different evenings.
- Send someone a drink.
- Add a few people you’ve enjoyed chatting with as friends.
