Some doors at Intrigue Chat lead somewhere a little darker. The Keep is our room for BDSM and kink: a place to ask the questions you’ve been curious about, talk openly with people who understand, and write stories with a twist. What happens there is always agreed first.
You don’t need experience to walk in. The curious are as welcome as people who’ve been in the lifestyle for years, and everyone was new once.

BDSM in a sentence
BDSM is an umbrella term for Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and Submission, and Sadism and Masochism. Most people enjoy one small part of it, such as power exchange or light restraint, rather than all of it. You’ll hear these words a lot:
- Dominant (Dom/Domme): the person who takes control.
- Submissive (sub): the person who gives it up.
- Switch: someone who enjoys both roles.
- Dynamic: the agreed relationship between people who play together.
- Limits: things someone won’t do (hard limits) or will only do with care (soft limits).
- Aftercare: the care and reassurance given after a scene.
The glossary has the rest.
Consent comes first
Everything in The Keep rests on consent. You’ll hear two frameworks: SSC (Safe, Sane and Consensual) and RACK (Risk-Aware Consensual Kink). In practice they mean the same thing: everything is agreed in advance, limits are respected, and anyone can stop at any time with a safe word. Our guide to consent in online kink chat goes deeper.
Role play in The Keep
Text role play lets you explore characters and dynamics through writing. Before a scene, agree:
- The roles each of you will play.
- Hard and soft limits.
- A safe word, or an out-of-character (OOC) signal to pause or stop.
- Whether the scene stays light in the room or moves to private messages.
Check in during the scene too. A quick “(OOC: still good?)” keeps everyone comfortable. Every character is an adult, always. New to writing? Start with text role play for beginners.
How The Keep works
- Say hello in the room before you PM anyone.
- Respect dynamics: don’t approach someone’s partner uninvited.
- Take full-on play and intense scenes to private messages with someone who’s said yes.
- No pressure, ever. Curiosity isn’t consent.
- The House Rules apply here as everywhere, and the room topic shows anything extra. Listen to the Room Keepers.
Red flags
Real Dominants respect limits, and real submissives are never obliged to obey strangers. Be wary of anyone who ignores your limits, refuses safe words, pushes you to move off-site quickly or claims “a true sub” should do whatever they say. Block them and report them. Our online chat safety tips show you how.
Questions people ask
I’m new to BDSM. Is The Keep for me? Yes. Ask anything. Nobody expects you to know the words yet.
Do I have to pick a role? No. Plenty of people take their time working out what they enjoy. Listening is fine.
Do I need VIP? No. The Keep is open to every member 18+, guests included.
Can I find a partner here? Some people do. Chat in the room first, and ask before you PM.
Can I role play in the room? Light, story-led scenes are fine. Intense scenes belong in private messages.
Keep the mystery. Lose the drama. Join Intrigue Chat, pick a name, and find The Keep when you’re ready.
