Pet Play Room: Chat for Handlers, Pets and the Curious

A community for adult handlers and pets – and newcomers curious to learn.

An adult reading a community discussion about respect and trust beside a paw-patterned mug.

The Pet Play Room is our pet play chat room – a space for handlers and pets to connect, train and play – and for newcomers to explore what pet play is all about. The room’s motto is simple: be respectful and have fun.

Pet play is one of the most playful corners of the kink world, and it’s often misunderstood. This room is a place to enjoy it with people who get it.

What is pet play?

Pet play is a form of role play between consenting adults in which one person takes on the role of an animal – often a puppy, kitten or pony – and another acts as their handler, owner or trainer.

For some people it’s about playfulness and letting go of everyday stress. For others it’s about care, structure and trust. For many it’s a mix of both. There’s no single right way to do it.

Common roles

  • Pet – the person who takes on an animal persona.
  • Handler / Owner – the person who cares for, guides and trains the pet.
  • Pack / Litter – a group of pets who play together.
  • Headspace – the relaxed, in-character mindset many pets enjoy.

Who is the pet play chat room for?

Consenting adults involved in pet play, and adults who are curious and want to learn in a supportive space. Newcomers are welcome to ask questions.

Getting started with pet play

  • Think about what appeals to you – the playfulness, the care, the structure, or all three.
  • Pick an animal persona that feels natural. Many people try a few before settling.
  • Chat with experienced members about what a dynamic looks like for them.
  • Agree limits and safe signals before any role play – including non-verbal ones for when a pet is “in character”.

Handlers and pets: responsibilities

A good handler is patient, attentive and responsible for the pet’s wellbeing – both in play and afterwards. A good pet communicates honestly about limits and how they’re feeling. Trust grows from both sides, and the pet play community in the room is a great place to learn how others make it work.
